LESSON PLAN

What is the meaning of a lesson plan?

A lesson plan refers to a teacher's plan for teaching a lesson to a student or a group of students. Using a lesson plan, a teacher maps out the objectives of a lesson and outlines the best way to relay that information to the students.
An effective lesson plan should also identify a strategy for determining whether or not the students have learned the material at hand. Because most teachers don't have an unlimited amount of time, the lesson plan should be calibrated to work within a set time frame.
Lesson plans do not need to include every single word that the teacher plans to say, and they do not need to account for every eventuality that may occur during the lesson. They simply need to provide an outline and a basic agenda. Sticking firmly to the lesson plan does not necessarily indicate that the lesson has been a success. Instead, teachers should use student learning as the benchmark for success.
A lesson plan can cover any topic, and it can last for any amount of time. A teacher can write a lesson plan that takes students through a short exercise, but they can also write a lesson plan that covers the entire semester. Teachers can write their own lesson plans, they can buy lesson plans or they can download special lesson plans from the National Education Association.
